5 Pairs of Shoes Elegant Women Never Wear

Most ladies know that a great pair of shoes can make or break an outfit, but an elegant lady understands that some shoes simply don’t work for a sophisticated aesthetic.

High Heels

An elegant lady will never wear shoes that are too high for her to walk in. High heels can be very flattering, adding height and giving a longer, leaner appearance. However, if the heel height is too high and they become impossible to walk in, it’s not a good look.

To appear graceful, an elegant lady will opt for a heel that’s just right for her.

A kitten heel, usually between four and five centimetres, is a versatile choice for day or night.

A classic heel, between six and eight centimetres, is universally a good choice for work, while a ten centimetre heel is great for evenings out or weekends.

Heels that are twelve centimetres or higher are really only suitable if you don’t expect to be walking very far.

Ugg Boots

The second pair of shoes that elegant ladies never wear are Ugg boots—at least outdoors, anyway. These slouchy, comfortable boots undoubtedly keep your feet warm and snuggly, but in my opinion, they’re best worn indoors as luxury loungewear slippers.

Platform Soles

An elegant lady usually moves in a graceful manner that flows effortlessly. A shoe that prevents such movement is one with a thick, heavy platform sole, which is the third type of shoe an elegant lady would never wear.

Although platform soles add height, they are counterintuitive if you want to appear elegant. For example, one of my outfits from a few years ago included a dress from Karen Millen and a hat from Marks & Spencer, but was ruined by thick, heavy platform soles. The perfect shoes to complement an outfit like this would have been a pair of heels with a flat sole, which would have enhanced the overall look.

Over-Embellished Shoes

The fourth type of shoe is any that are over-embellished. When it comes to elegance, simplicity is key.

An elegant lady avoids shoes with excessive embellishments like bows or feathers. Instead, she opts for something with minimal decoration. A shoe with simple diamantes can look sleek and stylish, blending beautifully with a sophisticated trouser suit and complementing the overall outfit rather than drawing dramatic attention to the footwear.

Ankle Boots

Ankle boots are a wardrobe staple for many, and the right style can complement any outfit.

But chunky biker boots are a style of boot that an elegant lady would never wear.

They are far too clunky and heavy for an elegant aesthetic. Instead, an elegant lady would choose a flatter sole with a practical heel height, in a colour that complements her outfit, for a sleeker, more sophisticated look.
