Three Easy Autumn Outfit Formulas to Try
Here’s three really easy outfit formulas to try this autumn.
Outfit Formula 1
So the first outfit formula is with the perfect versatile but classic piece of outerwear that can take you from casual to dressy in an instant and that’s the trench coat.
This is quite a classic outfit formula that’s just been modernized with up-to-date pieces. So the basic formula is beige top to match the beige trench coat, white jeans and nude Mary Janes.

It’s a look that we’ve seen many, many times. It’s quite classic, but how it’s been brought up to date is purely with the style of pieces. So, the jeans are a wide leg style and the shoes are in a Mary Jane style. But if you really wanted to update this look, try a trench coat in brown. It’s a big trend for the season ahead and even though brown is considered a trend color, I don’t think it’ll date.

So, I’ve done this look myself. It’s a mix of old and new. The jeans are new and they’re in a cream colour with a flare and a front seam. And these are from M&S. These are a great shape and because of the pin tuck crease down the front of the leg, it can really elongate the legs. These have got a zip fly fastening which I prefer and a high waist so there’s plenty of tummy control.

The top is years old. It’s from Dorothy Perkins and I’m actually wearing it back to front as it’s got a really nice boat neck which is a little bit more flattering under the coat. But the star piece is the trench coat and this is new and from Marks and Spencer again. It’s suedette and it’s cut just like a classic beige trench. It’s double breasted with deep pockets, detachable belt and adjustable cuffs, but the fabric and the color is what gives it its edge.
So, that’s a basic outfit with quite classic pieces, but modernized with wide leg jeans and an on-trend coloured trench coat.
White or cream isn’t always the easiest color to wear in the autumn. So, alternative ways to wear the trench with things you probably already own is with indigo jeans or a lighter wash denim and a white top

or with all black underneath or double denim underneath.I love the blue contrasted against the brown in this outfit and the textures too. It really complements each other.

Now, I tried it very quickly with the pieces that I had and I really like the colour combination. So, even if you don’t have a brown suede trench coat, but perhaps a brown jacket or a coat, you could try it with the double denim. It may be a new outfit idea that you could add to your wardrobe.
Outfit Formula 2
In the early part of autumn, you may not need to wear something as thick as a trench coat. So, that’s where a shirt comes in really handy. It is a great piece to be able to layer over or under other things, and it will give you some warmth if you need it.
So, I really like this outfit combination.

I like the colours, and I like the casualness of the outfit, but it still has that put together feel to it. So, essentially, the colour formula is navy blue and burgundy โ very beautiful and very classic. Again, this is just a modern way to do it.
So, I tried to recreate this look. This blouse comes from Marks and Spencer It is in a shiny satin fabric with quite long cuffs and quite a deep V-neckline as well, but I’ve had to pin that because it was a little bit too low for me.

In the outfit, I’m wearing a little bag and boots, both from Marks and Spencer, and some indigo jeans, also from Marks and Spencer, but these are a boot cut flare rather than just a flare.
Now, these jeans are long, but they’re perfect with the boots because they have quite a high chunky heel. They’re quite misleading actually because in some light they look burgundy and in other light they look brown, but they are actually described as brown on the website, but they do go very well with the outfit.
Now, a burgundy shirt may not be something you already have in your wardrobe. So, I had a quick little look online and there are actually quite a few available if you did want to recreate a similar look.
This one is from French Connection.

This is from Mango

There’s this one from H&M

And there’s this one from And Other Stories

So, there’s plenty to choose from.
Now, if you don’t like wearing jeans, a pair of navy trousers could be worn instead. And perhaps instead of the boots, maybe wear some trainers.

So, this outfit formula basically consists of dark indigo jeans or navy trousers, a burgundy blouse, burgundy boots, and bag. But if you do need an extra layer for this outfit, try green with it. It goes fabulously well with burgundy.

This is a green sort of suede jacket from Marks and Spencer again. And then I’ve layered that with an Argyle pattern scarf which has both the colors in it.
Now, if you were going to add just one thing this season to your wardrobe, add something in an Argyle print. It’s a really big trend and can update your outfit in an instant.
Outfit Formula 3
Autumn styling is all about layering because you’re going to need some kind of outerwear as the temperature starts to drop.

I loved this outfit when I saw it and to me it’s got a very Ralph Lauren feel to it with the layered shirt and exposed cuffs. So, let’s break down this outfit and I’ll show you what it looks like recreated.
Essentially, it’s just made up of five basic pieces: a white t-shirt, which could be long or short sleeved; a denim shirt, which you really should consider adding to your wardrobe if you don’t already have one because they’re just so versatile. The model is also wearing blue jeans in the same color way as the shirt, a check blazer, and boots.

The white t-shirt I’m wearing is from Lily Silk, and this is part of the jersey silk collection that they do. This is reasonably form fitting just so that the outfit doesn’t start to feel too bulky.
The denim shirt is from Marks and Spencer and this is worn loose with the blue cuffs folded over the check blazer. The denim jeans are also Marks and Spencer, but I got these in a size short. I think perhaps a regular length would have been a little bit better. But the denim wash do match and that’s what is important with this look.
Now, my blazer is also from Lily Silk. It’s single breasted with a single button and it really is a stunning blazer. This crosses over into the country chic look really well if you like that style and worn with riding boots and cozy knit. It’s a terrific country chic outfit.
So these are the boots.

They’re from Ally Shoes in a black suede. They’ve got quite a pointed toe and a really reasonable heel height, so they’re quite easy to walk in. I did also add a black belt to tie in with the black boots just to bring the whole look together.
This is a very smart casual outfit that could potentially be very easy to put together with just a few basic essentials and classic items.
